Customer Service Always Counts
57A few months ago, my husband Ben and I decided to purchase an RV. Our kids are getting older, Chad is 14 and Lucy is 17, and we love spending time enjoying the great outdoors together, so getting an RV seemed like the perfect way to enjoy long road-trip getaways with some of the comforts from home.
I began searching online, but I had trouble getting a true idea of how big the RVs were and how much room my family needed, so then Ben and I went to a local dealership, that shall remain nameless, to check out their selection. To start, they were completely lacking in the inventory department. It was mainly a car dealership, though their commercials and advertisements always touted that they had the best selection of recreational vehicles in town. There were only three RVs on the lot in the size that we were shopping for and none of them were new or gently used as advertised. To make matters worse, the salesperson knew very little about the RVs they had; Ben and I were disappointed with the entire experience.
We commiserated about our awful customer service experience with a few friends who own RVs. As it turns out, they had a very similar experience at the same dealership years earlier and ended up driving a few towns away to visit the Boat and RV in Ridgeland, SC. They had a much different customer service experience at Boat and RV in Ridgeland, SC, and suggested that we take a drive to see what they had.
As we pulled up to the dealership, it was instantly a better experience. We were greeted by a friendly salesperson, who was a lifelong RV enthusiast himself, who knew every detail we could have wanted to know about every RV on the lot. Within an hour, we had found a great RV and were taking it for a test drive. I didn’t want to buy it that day and the salesperson didn’t pressure us at all. We ended up buying it the very next weekend.
